Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - resulted in him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of that year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," stated tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's retrieving approach and regular reactions on court had caused some to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before Moutet, striving for his first tour victory, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet rescued four early chances in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
